My poetry is racy and rude, gentle and funny, and spiritual and inspirational! “SoulMagines” is a word I phrased to express the origins of my poetry. I blend the words soul, meaning my base feelings, and raw thoughts unleashed and unfiltered and imagination, meaning embellishment on personal perceptions. “Secret to a Sigh” is a collection of provocative words, thoughts, opinions and poems strung together as an authentic string of pearls. Each poem is a representation of individual and unique pearls. According to poet John Dryden, “he who searches for pearls must dive below”. I challenge my readers to “dive below” to discover distinct pearls in the sections of Artisan, Imagine, Themes of Love, Thoughts of a Female Employee, Statement, Female Sensibility and Butterflies R Free.

I purchased this book a couple of weeks ago and just had time to sit down with it this past weekend. As I flipped through it, it simply looked like a short book of poems that would be a quick read. My time is limited, even on weekends, so I appreciated the length of the book. From the very first poem, I felt myself being pulled and drawn into Ms. Jones' heart, life and emotions. I also caught myself reading each poem two or three or more times, slowly, before I went on to the next one. It took me two days to read it because I just kept going over the poems again and again. I even read some of them to my teenage daughter. I have read poetry since I was a kid but there was something different about these poems. The last two chapters really left an impression because of their stirring expressions of love and spirituality, both of which have taken priority in my life since my 15 month battle with double breast cancer five years ago. Don't let the size of this book fool you! This is a small but powerful book that anyone who has lived life can identify with and feel through. I want to thank all of the people in Ms. Jones' life who gave her these experiences and then thanks to those who encouraged her to put it down on paper! This is poetry at its best simple, truthful and thought provoking. The author's ability to share her thoughts effortlessly made me want more. It was as though I was thinking along with her.
Such a lovely read. It was fun to take a journey through the authors eyes....so much depth, understanding, and imagery.

This book is soft, firm, loving, and inspiring! .... An eclectic mix of truth, compassion, raw reality and lots of love (and orange)....I'll see that color differently from now on thanks to Ms Jones! Read it...you'll be moved!
Not only talented actress, coach and director; Carnetta Jones is a great writer! This book of poems is well written with many highs and lows. Makes a person, pause and think about it. Selah.
